Gonzalez received his B.S. degree in Chemistry (1981) from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Caracas, Venezuela; his M.A. in Physical Chemistry (1985) from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI; and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Dr. Gonzalez was a Postdoctoral Scholar at Carnegie Melon University, Pittsburgh, PA under the mentorship of Prof. John A. Pople, 1998 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry. Dr. Gonzalez joined NIST in 1997 as a member of the Computational Chemistry Group within the Physical and Chemical Properties Division. Dr. Gonzalez is currently the Chief of the Chemical Sciences Division.

Serhii E. Shafraniuk is Research Associate Professor at Department of Physics and Astronomy, Northwestern University. At Northwestern (2002-present) he serves as a PI in research projects related to electromagnetic properties of carbon nanotube and graphene field effect transistors, thermoelectric transport in carbon nanotube and graphene multi-barrier devices, and qubits. He has received the B.A. degree (cum laude) and the Ph.D. degree in physics from Kiev State University, Ukraine, in 1980 and 1985, respectively. Besides, Serhii had been honored the Doctor of Sciences degree from the Institute of Metal Physics, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2001. His thesis work has focused on non-equilibrium phenomena in inhomogeneous superconductors. Before coming to USA, Serhii had been working in various leading research centers in Europe and Japan (1990-2002). In particular from 1995 to 1999, he was a Foreign Research Staff Member at the Research Institute of Electrical Communication, Tohoku University, Japan. Prof. Shafraniuk has served as organizing committee member of several International Symposiums and Conferences related to the superconductivity nanoscience, and condensed matter.

Kerry Siebein is a Process Engineer in the NanoFab Operations Group. She received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida. Kerry has extensive experience using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy to analyze microstructural property relationships in a wide range of materials. Prior to joining the CNST, she managed the transmission electron microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy laboratories at the Major Analytical Instrumentation Center at the University of Florida, and taught, trained, and assisted students and faculty. Kerry is responsible for training NanoFab users and for operating the focused ion beam systems, scanning electron microscopes, and the transmission electron microscope in the NanoFab.

Cengiz S. Ozkan is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California Riverside. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University. He has over five years of industrial experience including Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC), Intel Corporation and Analog Devices. After completing his Ph.D. studies, He worked for AMCC in San Diego, and concurrently, he served as a consulting professor at Stanford University and a lecturer in Electrical Engineering at the University of California San Diego. He has been a member of several National Centers including the SRC-DARPA funded FCRP FENA Center, the UMASS NSF MRSEC on Polymers, the UMASS NSF NSEC on Hierarchical Manufacturing, the NCI-NIH funded UCSD NANOTUMOR Center, and the DARPA funded UCR CNID Center. Just recently, he joined the SRC-DARPA funded C-SPIN Center. His areas of expertise include nanomaterials synthesis/processing including graphene, III-V and II-VI materials, hierarchical and multilayered nanostructures, energy storage devices, nanoelectronics, biochemical sensors, nanopatterning for beyond CMOS, and nanoscale characterization. He has more than 200 technical publications including journal papers, conference proceedings and book chapters. He has over 50 patent disclosures, has given more than 100 presentations worldwide and is the recipient of more than 30 honors and awards. He is the Editor-in-Chief for “Nano Communications”. He organized and chaired 14 scientific and international conferences.

Moinuddin Sarker, PhD, MCIC, FICER, MInstP, has been working as the Vice President (VP) of Research and Development and Head of Science Team (VP and CTO), at the Natural State Research (NSR), Inc at Stamford, CT and the inventor of NSR’s award winning technology to convert municipal waste plastics into liquid hydrocarbon fuel. He has a M. Sc (1992) and Ph. D. degree in Chemistry from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), Manchester, UK (1996). David K. Mills is a Professor of Biological Sciences at Louisiana Tech University and holds a joint appointment with the University's Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM). He received his BA in Ancient History and Classical Civilization from Indiana University in 1977, the MA degree in Biological Anthropology from the University of Illinois in 1983 and the Ph.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology, also from the University of Illinois in 1990. By training, Dr. Mills is a cell and molecular biologist and his studies employ a suite of protein and DNA techniques with protein synthesis and gene expression of key phenotypic markers being a key emphasis. Mills’ primary research interests are in developing micro-and nanoscale technologies emphasizing biomedical applications. A major research focus is the development of a controlled-release molecular signaling system using layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly and cellular-architecture fabrication techniques. in his bioinformatics studies. Mills has successfully mentored over 45 undergraduate research students and, under his guidance and direction, 3 Ph.D. student in engineering, 12 MS students in Biological Sciences, 2 MS student in Chemical Engineering, 16 MS students in Biomedical Engineering, and 6 MS students in Molecular Science and Nanotechnology have received their advance degrees. He founded organicNANO, a Louisiana C-Corp in 2011. Organic NANO is primarily in the business of developing and commercializing halloysite nanotube (HNT) technology and bioactive polyelectrolyte multi-composite nanocoatings and nanofilms (PMNs). The company’s mission is to develop bioactive therapeutics that prevents infection, advance tissue repair and regeneration at the nanoscale using biocompatible and green biomaterials.

Omid Farokhzad is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and a physicianscientist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Dr. Farokhzad directs the Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Biomaterials at BWH. He is a faculty member of the Brigham Research Institute Cancer Research Center and a member of the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. Dr. Farokhzad’s research is focused on the development of therapeutic nanoparticle technologies; most notably, he pioneered the high throughput combinatorial development and screening of multifunctional nanoparticles for medical applications. Dr. Farokhzad has authored approximately 100 papers and holds more than 125 issued/pending US and International patents. The technologies that Dr. Farokhzad has developed with collaborators at HMS and MIT have formed the basis for: 1) a new class of targeted nanoparticles for treatment of important human diseases including cancer and cardiovascular disease; 2) a new class of synthetic nanoparticle vaccines for prophylactic and therapeutic applications and 3) a new class of integrative combination nanomedicines for synergistic treatment of cancers, inflammation/pain, and infectious diseases. These technologies formed the foundational platform for the launch of three biotechnology companies: BIND Therapeutics (NASDAQ: BIND), Selecta Biosciences, Blend Therapeutics, which are translating the aforementioned academic innovations toward commercialization and societal impact. Dr. Farokhzad was elected to the College of the Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and biological Engineering. Kar Seng (Vincent) Teng is a Senior Lecturer in Nanoelectronics at Swansea University in the United Kingdom and he is also the Head of Nanoelectronics Research Group within the Multidisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre in the College of Engineering. He received his PhD. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Swansea University, and has extensive research experiences and peer-reviewed journal publications in the study of nanoscale electronic materials and devices for applications in healthcare, information, photonic and energy technologies.

The research interest of the group is in the study of nanoscale electronic materials and devices. This involves the application of nanotechnology in electronics, which has major impact in healthcare, information, photonic and energy technologies. The group has the expertise in the fabrication and characterisation of nanoscale electronic materials and devices, as well as controlling their properties through surface engineering for novel applications. His current funded research projects include the development of nanobiosensors for continuous monitoring of chronic diseases and for the early detection of diseases, nanoplasmonics for photovoltaic, and fabrication of nanowires devices using printing technology.

Kanwar is an immunologist and molecular biochemist with an international reputation in investigating fundamental and applied molecular aspects of cancer and chronic inflammation. He did his Ph.D. from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. Before joining Deakin University in 2006, he was a Senior Scientist/Senior Research Fellow in the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. During the past decade his research both academic and commercial has centered on understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms and/or finding treatments for a variety of chronic inflammatory diseases and different types of cancer. Kanwar has published 55 research articles, 12 invited reviews and 5 book chapters, in highly ranked, international, peer-reviewed journals. These publications have added to the body of knowledge in the fields of immunology, cancer gene therapy, nanomedicine, cell biology and biotechnology, and have extended these disciplines. Professor Ahmed M. Safwat was born in Egypt. He received his B.Sc. with Honours from Kuwait University. He received his M.Sc. from Queens University, where he completed his Ph.D. work in two years. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University in June 2003. He is the Founding Director of the Laboratory for Advanced Wireless Networks (AWN). Professor Safwat was the Co-Chair of the International Conference on Wireless Networks, Communications, and Mobile Computing (WirelessCom) 2005. He also served as the Publicity Co-Chair for the IEEE International Workshop on Information Assurance in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNIA) 2005. He was the Co-Chair of IEEE GLOBECOM 2004 Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks. In addition, he was the Chairman of the IEEE IPCCC 2004 Workshop on Energy-Efficient Wireless Communications and Networks (EWCN). He was also the Chairman of the IEEE VTC 2003 Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks Symposium. Mohamed Saafiis an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, UK. He obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama 2001. Prof. Ajay Kumar Mishra is currently working as Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Chemistry, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Mingdong Dong (MD) is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University Denmark. He is a PI at Bio-SPM group supported by independent research grant from the Danish Natural Science Research Council. He did his PhD study at the University of Aarhus Denmark. After obtaining his PhD degree, he continued with a Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions at iNANO Denmark and Harvard University, USA. He has made great contributions on the applications of scanning probe microscopy in surface characterizations and Nano biomaterials fabrications. Especially he revealed several novel effects in the molecular self-assembling for biotechnology applications. He is also focusing on both the implementation and further development of a novel SPM technique with a high resolution microsecond force spectroscopy, and using this technique to study the dynamics and material properties of biological systems with submolecular resolution and high scanning speed. He is also fully involved in developing new functional nanomaterials for biological applications. He has published more than 100 papers in top international journals (include Nature, Nature Nanotech., Nature Com, PNAS, Nano He also organized several international conferences and serve co-chair for the conference division including ACS, MRS society meeting etc. As another important aspect of scientific research, he also acts as referees for high impact scientific journals (Nature group, PRL, JACS, Small, Advanced Materials etc.). In addition, he also serves as a guest editor for international peer review journals.

Y Li is a Professor at Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering, and an Adjunct Professor at Department of Bio-medical Engineering, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. He received a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering (1995) from McGill University (Canada), a PhD in Materials Physics (1990) from University of Sci. and Tech. Beijing, a M.Sc. in Solid State Physics (1985) from Zhongshan University (China), and a B.Sc. in Solid Mechanics (1982) from University of Sci. & Tech. China (Hefei). Dr. Li is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Nano and Biomaterials; he is also a member of editorial boards of other four journals.

Dr. Viliam Makis has received his PhD from Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague in 1981. Currently, he is working as a Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto. He has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as the Chair of the Engineering Science Option: Manufacturing Systems at the University of Toronto in 2000.He is serving as an editorial member of several reputed journals such as Advances in Operations Research (as an Editor), Journal of Mathematical and Computational Science (as an Editor), Central European Journal of Engineering (as an Editor, Industrial Engineering), Journal of Quality in Maintenance Engineering. He has authored or co-authored 70 research articles published in refereed journals, 65 papers published in Conference Proceedings, 100 conference presentations, 3 books as the first author and 6 chapters in books. He is a senior member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, American Society for Quality, a member of INFORMS and CORS. He has been honored as a Fellow of the Int. Society of Engineering Asset Management (FISEAM) in October 2011.

Viswanathan S. Saji has received M.Sc. (1997), M.Phil. (1999) and Ph.D. (2003) degrees from the University of Kerala, India. He was a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2004-2005) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2005-2007). Later, he shifted to South Korea and has been employed as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Yonsei University (2007-2008) and the Sunchon National University (2009); Research Professor at the Chosun University (2008-2009); Senior Research Scientist at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (2009-2010) and Research Professor at the Korea University (2010-present). He is (co-)author of more than 40 scientific publications; edited one book and contributed 3 book chapters.

Tsan-Ming Choi (Jason) is currently teaching at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Over the past few years, he has actively participated in a variety of research projects on supply chain management and applied optimization. He has authored/edited ten research handbooks and guest-edited twelve special issues for various leading journals on related topics. Sandeep K. Vashist is the Head of Immunodiagnostics at HSG-IMIT, Germany. He completed his Ph.D. from Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, India in 2006 and started his career as a Scientist at Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company, Ireland (2006-2009). Thereafter, he joined as the Team Leader at NUS Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative, Singapore (2009-2012). He pioneered and transferred successfully many technologies to industries and healthcare; filed several patents; and, published extensively (>100 manuscripts) in high IF journals and highly prestigious conferences. Based on his research outputs, he has been constantly awarded by renowned institutions for scientific research excellence, innovation and performance; received the topmost international research fellowships; and, awarded the invited memberships of societies such as RCS. He is the international expert reviewer for ~36 scientific journals (IF b/w 2.5-41) and numerous funding agencies; Executive Editor of J Basic Appl Sci and J Pharma Bioanal Sci; and Editorial Board member of J Nanomed Nanotech. His research interests are in the fields of nanotechnology, point-of-care devices, immunodiagnostics and biosensors.

Ramam has been in the field of semiconductors for the last over 25 years. He started his career with the Defense R & D labs in India working on GaAs based millimeter wave (mmW) devices and Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs). He was awarded the “Young Scientist” award for developing a process for 94GHz beam lead Schottky diode and later sent to Plessey III-V in U.K to get involved in the technology development of MMICs. He then moved to SGS-Thompson Microelectronics, Singapore as a senior manufacturing engineer focusing on bipolar integrated circuits technology, before joining the National University of Singapore. He specialized in the growth of arsenide based ternary/quaternary epitaxial materials by MBE and on the optical characterization of materials. For the last 15 years he has been with the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR, involved in the fabrication aspects of GaN based LEDs, integration of InP based photonic devices with MEMS and nanotechnology areas. He is a senior member of IEEE and has organised/chaired a number of symposia in international conferences. He is the vice-president of Asia Nano Forum (ANF), a network society of 15 Asian organizations and an active member of the ISO TC 229 mirror group on nanotechnologies. He is the recipient of A*STAR’s top award, the STAR Employee Award, for the year 2011 and is currently senior scientist III/Advisor to the SERC nanofabrication and characterization (SNFC) group at IMRE.

Madeleine du Toit is Professor and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.  She holds BEng, MEng and PhD degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the Universities of Pretoria and the Witwatersrand in South Africa.  She is registered as a Professional Engineer and as an International Welding Engineer (IWE) with the International Institute of Welding.  Prof Du Toit has published extensively in the field of welding metallurgy and regularly consults to industry as welding engineer.  She currently serves as President and member of Council of the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW).  Internationally, she serves as member of the Technology Management Board and as Vice-chairperson of Commission IX (Behaviour of metals subjected to welding) of the International Institute of Welding.

B. V. Manoj Kumar obtained PhD from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Indian in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering in 2007. After working one year as Post-doctoral researcher at Seoul National University and two years as Research Assistant Professor at University of Seoul, he joined IIT Roorkee, India as Assistant Professor in 2011. Previously, he worked as Guest Researcher at CTD, University of Ljubljana, and Lecturer (Adhoc) at NIT Warangal, India. For the last 8 years, Dr. Manoj is actively engaged in understanding the microstructure-mechanical property relation of important ceramics and composites prepared using advanced sintering techniques such as pressureless sintering, hot pressing and spark plasma sintering. Dr. Manoj did some fundamental work in the fabrication of nano crystalline ceramics, and their effect on mechanical/wear properties. Additionally, he worked on the wear behaviour of MMCs and CMCs in different fretting/sliding conditions, and processing porous SiC ceramics from polymer precursors.
